BCN3D Omega I60 G2: The First Quantum-Era Printer

BCN3D presented its new 3D printer Omega I60 G2 at Formnext, the leading European event dedicated to additive manufacturing. It is the first machine launched by BCN3D after its acquisition by Quantum , which arrived in August following the bankruptcy proceedings opened in May 2025. The model is described as a “Built for the Factory Floor” system, designed for the production environment and for continuous applications.

From the first Omega I60 to the G2 generation

There Omega I60 G2 represents the evolution of industrial architecture introduced by BCN3D with the Omega I60 in 2023, a platform developed to produce large-scale fixtures, jigs and components at high speeds and in engineering materials. The original version offered a print volume of 450 × 300 × 450 mm (60 litres) , a chamber heated up to 70°C , a material handling system with temperature and humidity control and a high-speed direct extruder with speeds up to 300 mm/s . The G2 builds on this foundation and introduces a series of improvements to make it more suitable for repeatable, industrial-scale production.

Build volume, heated chamber and materials

Like the previous model, the Omega I60 G2 maintains the useful volume of 450 × 300 × 450 mm , equal to approximately 60 liters , configured for large components such as fixtures, masks, control jigs and functional prototypes. The print chamber is heated up to 70°C allows you to work with engineering polymers such as Reinforced ASA, PA, ABS, and PA reduce deformations and internal stresses during cooling. This allows for more dimensionally stable parts with improved mechanical strength, a key advantage for those using 3D printing directly in the production department as an alternative to slower or more expensive processes.

New G2 features: Assisted calibration, redesigned printheads and process control

The BCN3D Omega I60 G2 introduces a series of innovations focused on process stability. The machine integrates a XYZ calibration assisted by artificial intelligence algorithms to reduce alignment errors and improve job-to-job repeatability. G2 print heads They have been redesigned to better adapt to long cycles and to reduce maintenance interventions. The heated chamber also features a integrated camera , useful for monitoring prints in real time, documenting production batches and supporting remote diagnostic activities.

Advanced material management: active spool control and sensors in the feeder

Another area in which BCN3D intervenes with the G2 is the print material management . The Omega I60 G2 integrates a system active control of the spool , capable of feeding or retracting the filament depending on the process requirements. Added to this is a An updated power supply unit with three integrated sensors , designed to accurately detect the presence of material, blockages, or flow anomalies. The goal is to reduce unexpected interruptions, waste, and machine downtime, a critical factor when the printer is used in a production environment where jobs can last many hours and are part of a precise schedule.

IDEX architecture and dual printing modes

The Omega I60 G2 retains the architecture IDEX (Independent Dual Extruder) , the distinctive element of the solutions BCN3D . With this system, the two extrusion heads move independently on the X axis. This allows the use of printing modes such as Duplication (two identical parts in parallel) and Mirror (two symmetrical parts) to double productivity on repeating geometries, as well as the ability to combine primary and support materials while keeping the two flow lines separate. For a production department, this means maximizing print volume, especially for medium and small batches of similar components.

Cybersecurity and the “No WiFi” option

An aspect that is not only technical but also organizational concerns the Cybersecurity . The Omega I60 G2 comes with enhanced cybersecurity features, including a specific option “No WiFi” For those contexts where the company prefers to isolate the machine from the wireless network and manage data flows only via the wired network or controlled internal systems. This is aimed at sectors where protecting designs, geometries, and process parameters is a formal or contractual requirement.

Target applications: tooling, production and service

BCN3D continues to position the Omega family as the platform for production equipment, jigs & fixtures and functional components in technical polymer materials. In a production department, the Omega I60 G2 can cover needs ranging from the creation of drilling templates to painting masks, assembly supports, end-of-line elements and non-critical spare parts. For the 3D printing service , the combination of large volume, heated chamber and IDEX allows us to handle both large prototypes and small series for customers who require custom components with shorter lead times compared to traditional mechanics.

Price, availability, and comparison with other FFF launches at Formnext

There Omega I60 G2 is proposed in pre-order until February with an indicative price of €22,500 + VAT . The launch comes at a Formnext event packed with FFF innovations. In this context, BCN3D, with the Omega I60 G2, aims to dominate the segment of industrial solutions for light production, geared towards the needs of workshops and manufacturing departments requiring a machine dedicated to medium-to-large-sized engineering polymer parts.

Strategic significance for BCN3D and Quantum

For Quantum , the presentation of the Omega I60 G2 is a key step: it demonstrates the will to continue the development of the BCN3D portfolio and to provide continuity to customers who had invested in the brand before the financial crisis. The acquisition announcements describe Quantum as a company backed by private investors from Lleida interested in strategic industrial assets and medium- to long-term growth. With a machine explicitly targeting the "factory floor," Quantum and BCN3D are attempting to position the brand within the niche of “light” industrial 3D printing , where the request is not just for prototyping but for repeatable production of functional components.
