BCN3D Omega Proto

Technical filament for functional prototyping

Omega Proto is a technical filament developed for creating functional prototypes, components for industrial applications, and parts intended for dimensional, mechanical, and assembly verifications. The material combines good robustness, durability, chemical resistance, and high surface quality, offering an effective balance between performance, ease of printing, and post-processing possibilities.

Compared to more common prototyping materials, Omega Proto is designed to offer superior performance to PLA in terms of strength, greater ease of use compared to ABS, and a more refined surface finish than PETG. The adhesion between layers also contributes to achieving more uniform and structurally reliable components.

The formulation is primarily based on a copolyester and polyethylene terephthalate, with functional additives. The product is intended exclusively for use with the BCN3D Omega I60 printer and the dedicated Omega Hotend Tip 0.4 HR nozzle.

Final performance depends on geometry, print orientation, process parameters, environmental conditions, and post-processing. For critical or product liability applications, user testing and validation are recommended.

Key advantages

  • Material suitable for functional prototyping and small-series production.
  • Good robustness and durability for components intended for ordinary use conditions.
  • Chemical resistance suitable for numerous technical applications.
  • High surface quality and uniformity, with a matte appearance.
  • Good adhesion between layers and reliable interlayer bonds.
  • Easier to manage than ABS in compatible applications.
  • Suitable for machining and finishing after printing.
  • Professional 2.5 kg format, designed to reduce spool changes during work cycles.
  • Optimized compatibility with the BCN3D Omega I60 ecosystem.

Note on specifications

The safety data sheet provided by BCN3D does not include values for print temperature, bed temperature, speed, drying, or other process settings. To avoid presenting unverified data as official values, these parameters should be consulted in the product's technical data sheet or the most up-to-date BCN3D print profile.

Recommended applications

Omega Proto is suitable for:

  • Functional prototypes.
  • Components for low-load equipment.
  • Alignment jigs.
  • Basic fasteners.
  • Gauges and inspection fixtures.
  • Parts for positioning and assembly.
  • General assembly structures and components.
  • Technical models for dimensional or ergonomic verification.
  • Components to be machined or finished after printing.
  • Small series and preliminary product validations.

Do not use the material for medical devices, safety components, critical structural parts, or applications subject to specific regulations without prior technical and regulatory validation.

Safety information

The BCN3D safety data sheet indicates the product as low risk during normal industrial or commercial handling, but signals specific risks during printing, processing, and handling of molten material. The document shows September 20, 2023 as the revision date.

Area Safety Information
Warning Danger
Thermal risk Molten polymer can cause serious thermal burns
Skin risk May cause an allergic skin reaction; hot material should not be removed from skin or contaminated clothing
Eye risk May cause severe eye irritation; molten material may cause burns
Inhalation risk May cause allergic or asthmatic symptoms and breathing difficulties if inhaled
Dust Processing may generate dust; avoid breathing it in
Combustible dust In the presence of fine particles, combustible dust concentrations may form; dust clouds may pose an explosion risk
Ventilation Use adequate general ventilation and, where possible, localized extraction at dust formation points
During drying Provide adequate extraction
Eye protection Wear safety glasses with side shields or sealed goggles/face shield depending on activity
Hand protection Wear protective gloves, especially during part removal and hotend intervention
Body protection Wear suitable non-permeable protective clothing during risky operations
Respiratory protection In the presence of dust, use a dust filter respirator selected by competent personnel
OSHA limits for PNOC 15 mg/m³ for total dust; 5 mg/m³ for respirable fraction
ACGIH values for PNOC 10 mg/m³ for inhalable particulate; 3 mg/m³ for respirable particulate
Skin contact Wash with plenty of soap and water
Contact with hot material Quickly cool the area with cold water; do not attempt to detach hot polymer
Eye contact Rinse immediately with water for at least 15 minutes, including under the eyelids, and contact a doctor
Inhalation Move the person to fresh air, keep them calm, and contact a doctor
Ingestion Drink water as a precautionary measure; do not induce vomiting without medical advice
Fire Suitable means: carbon dioxide, water spray, and sand
Fire: unsuitable means Do not use high-pressure water jets
