CarbonX ASA+CF Carbon fiber reinforced ASA
CarbonX ASA+CF is a high-performance carbon fiber-reinforced acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) filament, ideal for anyone looking for a structural part with high modulus, excellent surface quality, dimensional stability, lightweight, and ease of printing. Made using 15% high modulus carbon fiber (not carbon powder or milled carbon fiber). Made using our highly popular ASA resin and premium carbon fiber.
The benefits of CarbonX™ ASA+CF include:
- ASA is UV stable and suitable for outdoor use
- Rigid, high-modulus, industrial-grade parts
- Suitable for use on virtually all desktop 3D printers
- Stiffness, modulus and dimensional stability significantly improved thanks to the addition of carbon fiber reinforcement
- Easier to print than most industrial-grade materials
- Excellent surface appearance thanks to matt ASA and carbon fiber
Recommended print settings:
- Extruder: 235-255°C
- Bed temperature: 90-110°C
- Nozzle: We currently recommend a hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.4mm.
- Note: The ideal layer height is 60% of the nozzle diameter. We do not recommend printing layers thinner than 0.2 mm with carbon fiber-reinforced filaments.
- Bed Making: Magigoo Bed Making Sticker
- Heated chamber: Recommended, a chamber helps reduce warping.
- Supports: Water-soluble AquaTek X1 USM works great for complex parts.
- Drying instructions: 80°C for 4 hours.
Carbon fiber reinforced filament
What is it? - Carbon fibers 5-10 micrometers wide. The fibers are aligned along the material's axis. This, combined with their physical composition, is what gives this material its excellent properties.
What does it do? - Carbon fibers demonstrate many desirable material properties: high stiffness, high tensile strength, high heat tolerance, high chemical resistance, low weight, and low thermal expansion.
How does it work? - Reinforcing plastic with carbon fibers produces a 3D printing filament that features the best properties of both carbon fibers and the chosen plastic.
What is it good for? Ideal for any application requiring lightness and rigidity. Carbon fiber reinforced parts, designed to use less material and save weight, are extremely popular in the aerospace, civil engineering, military, and motorsports industries.
Abrasive material
This material is particularly abrasive among 3D printing filaments. Users may find that standard brass nozzles wear out very quickly compared to standard nozzles. Once worn, the nozzle diameter will expand inconsistently, and the printer will experience extrusion issues.
For this reason, it is highly recommended to print this material through a hardened steel nozzle rather than a softer metal. Hardened steel nozzles can often be inexpensive and easy to install, depending on the printer manufacturer's instructions.
