DJI Aeroscope: the solution against drone attacks?

Parallel to their constant diffusion among the mass as devices for entertainment and with an ever wider range of professional applications, unfortunately drones are also the subject of a trend that is anything but encouraging, since the statistics show how they are increasingly more frequent used for illegal activities , such as smuggling in prisons, and even terrorist, such as the recent attacks in the Emirates , without considering the news, even more numerous, concerning sightings of suspicious drones such as those recently occurred over the Government buildings and a nuclear power plant in Sweden.

This is why the attention and funds that many countries allocate to internal security and in particular to that of sensitive objectives such as in the case of airports and energy production plants (especially nuclear power plants) have been used for years in purchasing, research and development of technological solutions able to protect these areas from possible intrusions and attacks with drones : the so-called anti-drone systems .

One of the most popular in this category is DJI Aeroscope , a platform specialized in the identification of most of the drones on the market today, whose stationary unit is able - under ideal conditions - to monitor the airspace within a radius of 50 km. from its position, while the more compact portable unit - designed for circumstances such as events and more - is able to cover a radius of 5 km .

How DJI AeroScope works

Thanks to the Geofencing function of DJI Aeroscope it is in fact possible to arbitrarily establish virtual "warning zones" and "alarm zones" around the stationary unit, subject to different types of response from security in the event of a drone intrusion. not allowed.

When one or more aircraft enter this perimeter, the DJI AeroScope system not only performs the function of the simple radar , detecting its presence in the controlled airspace, but for each of them, at the same time, detects the Remote ID and connections between drone and remote control , thus managing to collect in real time a series of additional information including position, altitude, speed and direction of the drone, as well as the position of the pilot and the serial number of the drone itself .

This information makes it easier to assess the dangerousness of the situation and modulate the response accordingly, while the last element, that is the position of the pilot, is decisive for directing the intervention in terms of ascertaining and controlling the person in charge of the unauthorized flight. .

This data can be integrated with advanced security systems thanks to SDK support , and AeroScope supports storage in public cloud, private cloud and local distribution , thus also lending itself to offsite monitoring and data segregation.

DJI AeroScope is therefore not comparable to classic radars, which among other things are "active" systems not suitable for all environments due to the regulations to be respected in order not to create interference with aeronautical communication systems, but it is a "passive" system which creates no noise for other communication technologies, making it both accurate and reliable for tracking DJI drones, which account for approximately 75% of the market share , within an airspace.

This explains the secret of the DJI AeroScope success, a system chosen by about 70% of the prisons in the United States and installed by 3Digital in collaboration with companies expert in the assembly of antennas.
