DJI Mavic 3T VS M2EA for aerial inspection missions

In-depth comparison between DJI Mavic 3 Therma l and Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced drones. Find out why the Mavic 3T is an upgrade over the M2EA and how it can be used for public safety, law enforcement and inspections.

  • Mavic 3 Thermal is the new generation of lightweight, portable and multi-sensor DJI drones;
  • Compared to the M2EA, the M3T has a longer battery life, supports hybrid zoom, and is compatible with DJI FlightHub 2, as well as other upgrades;
  • Both drones can acquire visual and thermal data;
  • The Mavic 3T is presented as the successor to the M2EA and can be used for operations such as public safety, search and rescue, and inspection.

Whether it's a quick emergency response or increased portability for an aerial inspection, lightweight drones can be an essential part of a corporate UAS program.

Until recently, the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced was an industry-leading compact drone that combined power and portability.

But now DJI has released the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal, billed as the successor to the Mavic 2 Enterprise series.

Indeed, this new generation of compact, multi-camera drones packs many of the M2EA's key features, such as the 640 x 512 radiometric thermal sensor, but dramatically improves in other essential areas, such as longer flight duration and zoom. visual.

This insight will highlight the improved capabilities of the M3T, compare it to the M2EA, and help you decide whether the Mavic 3 Thermal is worth investing in for public safety, search and rescue, and inspection missions.

As a side note, the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal was launched alongside the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise, designed for high precision surveying and inspection.

Camera

For a drone of its size, the Mavic 3 Enterprise offers powerful imaging capabilities and the thermal sensor is considerably better than that of its predecessor, the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced.

First, the Mavic 3 Thermal has three sensors: Wide, Tele and Thermal. In contrast, the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced has Wide and Thermal sensors.

There is no difference in size or resolution between the wide sensors of either drone, but the addition of the 1/2 ″ Tele sensor allows Mavic 3T operators to benefit from a higher level of visual zoom, offering a hybrid zoom 56x, compared to the M2EA's 32x digital zoom.

Visually, the M3T and M2EA offer 4k30p video resolution.

Both drones benefit from a thermal resolution of 640 x 512 @ 30Hz, which is really impressive, especially for the size of both aircraft. As for thermal zoom, the M2EA can achieve 16x digital zoom, while the Mavic 3T can achieve 28x digital zoom.

rtk module

The two drones have two different RTK modules.

The RTK module for the Mavic 3 Enterprise series is brand new and is designed exclusively for the Mavic 3 Enterprise series.

Likewise, the RTK module for the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced can only be used with this specific aircraft.

The RTK module for the Mavic 3 Enterprise Series is smaller and lighter than the one for the M2EA, as shown in the specification table below.

As an added benefit, the Mavic 3 Enterprise's RTK module design optimizes cooling and time of flight.

Design

Both drones belong to the DJI Mavic family, so their design is very similar, i.e. small, light and foldable, which makes them extremely portable.

The main design specifications are listed below:

comparison Mavic 3 Thermal and Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced

The Mavic 3 Thermal and Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced have a fixed payload, but accessories can be mounted on top of the aircraft.

Both are compatible with accessories such as loudspeaker and RTK module. The M2EA also features a spotlight accessory, which comes standard with the drone. There is currently no official DJI spotlight available for the Mavic 3 Thermal, but a third-party solution may be developed.

The Mavic 3 Thermal has a built-in beacon, which can then be used in conjunction with one of the accessories. In contrast, the beacon is a standalone module for the M2EA, so it cannot be used in conjunction with another add-on, such as the speaker or RTK module.

On both drones, the RTK module accessory (to be purchased separately) is able to guarantee centimeter-level in-flight positioning accuracy.

In addition to the RTK module, accessories such as the speaker, headlight, and beacon come standard with the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced, while the speaker and RTK module must be purchased separately for the Mavic 3 Thermal. In addition, the Mavic 3 Enterprise series is compatible with the DJI D-RTK 2 system.
