DJI Mini 4 Pro gets lots of new features with firmware update for the holiday season
DJI has released a major new firmware update for its latest sub-8 ounce drone, the Mini 4 Pro. The firmware significantly improves camera features, aircraft safety, and device compatibility. Read on to find out all the news…
Many companies are in vacation mode this time of year, but DJI's development team evidently hasn't given up on the rush. To ensure that Mini 4 Pro users can make the most of their aerial adventures this holiday season, the drone manufacturer has released firmware v01.00.0300 for the aircraft and upgraded the remote controller to version v02.00.0300 (DJI RC 2) and v01.01.0200 (DJI RC-N2). The DJI Fly app has also been updated to v1.12.4 for the iOS and Android platforms.
What exactly does the new firmware offer? Here are the highlights at a glance:
- Adds automatic mode for ActiveTrack 360
- Adds Vision Assist
- Adds switch for vision positioning and obstacle detection
- Adds 3x digital zoom for 12MP photo mode
- Adds support for taking five 48MP photos when using AEB and Burst Shooting
- Adds support for DJI Goggles 2, DJI Goggles Integra and DJI RC Motion 2
- Adds support for Automatic Remote ID activation in the United States only when the aircraft is operated with an Intelligent Flight Battery Plus.
And now let's dive deeper into the improvements made to the camera and shooting modes. With the new Auto mode for ActiveTrack 360, the Mini 4 Pro can go beyond simply tracking a subject from a certain distance and altitude. Essentially, shooting will become much more cinematic because the drone will automatically perform a series of maneuvers such as tracking the subject from different directions, ascent and spiral rotation, as in the Helix shooting mode.
Additionally, you can now digitally zoom between 1x and 3x in 12MP photo mode and take five 48MP photos when using AEB and Burst Shooting modes.
As for the new safety elements, Vision Assist is a function that will help you anticipate obstacles in every direction during flight. There are several scenarios where this feature can be useful and you can read about them in a detailed post here. Additionally, you can now turn off the Mini 4 Pro's downward-facing sensor. This can come in handy in situations where you need a quick landing, such as when flying from a boat or moving vehicle.
Another improvement from a regulatory compliance perspective is the automatic activation of Remote ID when the aircraft exceeds the 250 gram weight limit. The Intelligent Flight Battery Plus can give the Mini 4 Pro a truly impressive flight time of up to 45 minutes, but it also increases the weight of the aircraft. For this reason, Remote ID compliance becomes necessary even for recreational users who would otherwise be exempt from the rule.
Finally, the travel drone is now compatible with DJI's latest FPV equipment: Goggles 2, Goggles Integra and RC Motion 2. This means that users of the Mini 4 Pro can now experience the thrill of immersive first-view flight person connecting their drone with a video headset and a motion sensor joystick.
