DJI's first drone light show calls for global water conservation

Tech giant DJI put on its first light show featuring 1,000 aircraft, joining the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to celebrate the 43rd World Food Day today.

To illustrate the theme of World Food Day with the motto “Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind,” the drones turned into drops of water and fell onto the surface of a lake to create ripples.

A mesmerizing light show unfolded as a goddess of life, aided by a DJI Agras drone, sowed and nourished the earth. The result: A harmonious scene of greenery where man and nature coexist. The drone maker called the project DJI Firefly.

“We are pleased to announce that the DJI Firefly project's inaugural drone light show is dedicated to celebrating World Food Day,” said Christina Zhang, senior corporate strategy director at DJI.

“Our agricultural drone solutions are making great strides in improving sustainable food production and safeguarding water resources. Our goal is to raise public awareness about water conservation and demonstrate how the world can reap the benefits of scientific and technological advances."

Sheikh Ahaduzzaman, FAO Representative in China, added: “Protecting water resources and safeguarding food security requires the joint efforts of all of society. I appreciate the efforts of all participants in the pro bono World Food Day enlightenment campaign in China. You have made more people aware of World Food Day, you have made everyone understand better the importance of food safety and you have contributed positively to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”.

Since 2012, DJI has expanded its agricultural business to more than 100 countries and regions across six continents. By early October 2023, the total area of ​​DJI's global agricultural operations will reach 988 million acres (399 hectares).

Thanks to the precision of fertilization and spraying, a cumulative water saving of 174 million tons was recorded, equivalent to the amount of water consumed by 300 million people in a year. Powered by batteries rather than fuels, the cumulative reduction in carbon emissions from DJI Agriculture drones was 20.58 million tons, equivalent to planting 1.26 billion trees on Earth.
