DJI has released the DJI Avata 2, its latest FPV drone that boasts improved imaging, safety features, and battery life over its predecessor, the DJI Avata.

Camera: Which camera is best for me?
The Avata 2 significantly improved camera quality over the Avata, now featuring the ability to capture in 10-bit D-Log M color mode, whereas the first Avata was limited to D-Cinelike color mode.
10-bit D-Log M lets you capture footage in both bright and shadowy landscapes, and colors can easily be further enhanced in post-production, making them as lifelike as possible.
Meanwhile, D-Cinelike mode gives the image a cinematic quality by applying a lookup table (LUT), which contains a predefined mathematical formula for image editing. Opting for this mode is best if you prefer not to manually adjust the colors, as it provides a preset cinematic look.
D-Log M offers greater flexibility in color grading thanks to its higher bit depth, while D-Cinelike provides a pre-set cinematic look for those who prefer not to manually adjust colors. If your goal is to capture content that is as true to life as possible, D-Log M is the preferred option. However, if you prefer a more cinematic perspective to your footage and don’t want to manually adjust camera settings, then D-Cinelike is the ideal option for you.
When it comes to lenses, both Avata drones have a super wide-angle CMOS camera, the differences are in the size and the number of pixels it can capture, as shown in the table below.
The 1/1.3 lens offers a larger aperture than the 1/1.7 lens, resulting in better low-light performance and potentially sharper images. However, the 1/1.7 lens can provide a wider field of view, making it suitable for capturing larger scenes.

Video transmission
The video transmission system has made significant progress, moving from Ocusync 3.0+ to O4.
Ocusync 3.0+ supports a maximum distance of up to 10km between the aircraft and the remote controller, while O4 extends this range to 20km. This improvement to the Avata 2 drone gives users more flexibility to fly their drones over longer distances while maintaining an uninterrupted live feed transmission. Additionally, the O4 system boasts reduced latency and improved live feed quality, streaming content in 1080p at up to 100fps. In comparison, Ocusync 3+ is limited to 1080p at 30fps. Additional improvements include updates to the communication bandwidth and maximum video bitrate. These improvements result in smoother communication with aircraft and clearer footage, while minimizing buffering for pilots.
Despite the many improvements, it is important to recognize that the DJI Avata still has a high-quality video transmission system. It is still capable of capturing excellent content and is the more affordable option of the two drones. However, for superior content quality, the Avata 2 is the preferable choice.

The Avata 2 represents a significant improvement in both size and power over the DJI Avata. This improvement is exemplified by an extended flight time, with the Avata 2 offering an additional 4 minutes of hover time over the DJI Avata. Specifically, the Avata 2 boasts a whopping 21 minutes of hover time, surpassing the DJI Avata’s 18 minutes.
The Avata 2’s longer battery life makes it more suitable for longer flights, allowing it to cover greater distances without the need for frequent charging intervals. Additionally, the Avata 2 offers faster charging times, especially when paired with the Bidirectional Charging Hub [LINK IT], allowing for a full charge from 0% to 100% in just 45 minutes. In contrast, the DJI Avata takes over two hours to reach a full charge. Despite this discrepancy in charging times, the DJI Avata’s power, while less than the Avata 2, remains comparable.
